Gunman sentenced to 12 years in prison for shooting
A convicted gunman who admitted shooting a Devonshire man outside a North Shore nightclub has been jailed for more than 12 years.Pelealkhai Williams, 23, was sentenced to 12 years and three months of imprisonment for wounding Rodney Grimes with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and using a firearm to commit an indictable offence in an incident on October 9.His co-accused, Jonathan Dill, 28, was sentenced to one year in prison for being an accessory to the crime after the fact.The court had heard the victim, 25-year-old Rodney Grimes, was spotted in the Gravity nightclub by members of the 42 gang.Williams, an admitted member of the gang, told police that he was instructed by other gang members to fetch a firearm and shoot Mr Grimes.At around 3.09am, Mr Grimes was leaving the club when Williams walked up behind him, pointed a gun at the back of his head, and pulled the trigger.While Mr Grimes lay on the ground bleeding, Williams got on the back of a bike ridden by Dill and rode away from the area.Mr Grimes was treated for a bullet wound to his right ear and a laceration to his left ear.Both defendants admitted their involvement in the offence in April.
