Women’s rugby returned to Bermuda yesterday, and with it a lesson in clinical finishing.

New York only needed the merest sniff of the tryline and the six tries they ran in were testament to their ability to turn any opportunity in to points.

Ang Yue and Lisa Roelin grabbed two each and Autumn Neuharth and Adria Orr, also scored, while Mary McCarthy missed only one conversion.

Gemma Godfrey got the home side’s lone score, a first on the Island for the team since 2008.

Bermuda, dubbed the “Dark & Stormies” were not expected to beat New York — they are still finding their feet in the game — but as a learning exercise it may prove invaluable.

The home team have pace and power, but are still a little naive and were caught out ball-watching a couple of times leaving team-mates isolated. These were mistakes that New York capitalised on with ruthless efficiency.

Scorers: Bermuda: Try: G Godfrey. New York RFC: Tries: Neuharth, Yue 2, Orr, Roelin 2. Conversions: McCarthy 5.

Scoring sequence (Bermuda first): 0-7, 0-14, 0-21, 0-26 (half-time), 0-33, 5-33, 5-40.

Bermuda squad: A Swan, K Nusum, A Xipolia, G Godfrey, K Alleyne, E McArthur, M Tomika, J Godfrey, D Borden, A James, G Cross.

New York squad: F Lloyd, N Oberman-Breindel, M Pastuck, M McCarthy, A Neuharth, L Wylie, J Conte, A Yue, A Orr, L Roelin, J Nelsen.
