Bermudian students on the job at PwC
PwC Bermuda has hired 13 Bermudian interns for the summer as part of the firm’s HeadStart programme.
The students are gaining on-the-job training aimed at developing their professional and interpersonal skills, according to a PwC spokesperson. They are working on a range of projects, to provide them with experience in the firm’s different lines of service from tax, insurance and asset management to marketing and communications. The students will also help to organise networking events for the PwC HeadStart team.
This year students are also volunteering at the Matilda Smith Williams Seniors Residence, helping with maintenance and painting the building.
David Gibbons, PwC managing director and HeadStart programme leader, said: “If students perform well, there is potential that they can secure a full-time position with PwC. This allows students to focus on university life knowing a full-time career is secured.”
Among the students are Kyle Harvey, a student at Wilfrid Laurier University, who is studying Business Administration. He said: “Overall, the hands-on nature of the internship has allowed me to gain a vast amount of knowledge on accounting and the auditing process.”
Nikki-Lynn Marshall, a recent graduate of Boston University with a BA in Economics and International Relations, noted: “The aspect of the internship programme that will resonate with me most is the coaching and development that we have all received.”
Miss Marshall added: “Each Friday we enjoy a learning and development day which involves participating in various workshops and personal growth activities, allowing us to tailor and refine our professional and academic interests, while improving key business skills through teamwork and collaboration within the HeadStart intern group.”
Dominick Wright, a sophomore at the University of Pennsylvania, said: “From day one, PwC made me feel as though I was part of their team. My supervisors have always been extremely supportive, answering any questions I’ve had. Also, I have been able to work independently on tasks, allowing me to take on new challenges.”
