Gas prices go up nearly 3 cents today
Finance Minister the Hon. David Saul announced the cost of gasoline is to rise by 2.8 cents a litre, diesel fuel b y one cent a litre and kerosene by 0.9 cents a litre.
As a result, the maximum retail prices for local petroleum will be 114.4 cents a litre for gas, 86.8 cents a litre for diesel and 65.9 cents a litre for kerosene.
DAB DEFERS WEDCO CLOCK TOWER PLAN PLN DAB defers Wedco Clock Tower plan The Development Applications Board deferred an application made by the West End Development Corporation to build a link between the Clock Tower and sail loft.
It stated the application, received on October 4 last year, would have to be delayed pending the receipt of additional information and review by the Advisory Architectural Panel.
The Board approved the application made by the Face and Body Salon to convert space into a beauty salon.
Owner of the salon Mr. Alex Hamilton said he hopes to convert the old Book Mart on Burnaby Street into a beauty Salon which will focus on facials, nails, and waxing.
And Mr. Winslow Minors' plans to build horse stables and fenced paddocks for a carriage operation in St. George's was deferred by the Board until a site visit is made.
THREW KNIFE AT SON, PUT ON PROBATION CTS Threw knife at son, put on probation A woman who threw a knife into her seven-year-old son's back was given two years probation in Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis also told Venita S. Brown, 36, that she must seek counselling.
Brown, of Wellington Back Road, St. George's, pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding in February.
Prosecutor, Sgt. Donald Grant told the Court that on August 15 last year Brown threw a knife at her son after she noticed he had added too much water to a mixture while they were in the kitchen preparing food.
When she realised what she had done Brown removed the knife and dialled 911.
The boy received five stitches at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and was kept overnight.
Sgt. Grant added that Brown, who had no similar previous convictions, admitted she threw the knife in a fit of anger. She has since displayed great remorse for the act and has attended a psychiatric outpatients' clinic.
TEACHERS TO HOLD A MATHEMATICS FAIR ED Teachers to hold a mathematics fair The Bermuda Council of Teachers of Mathematics is holding a mathematics fair to celebrate Mathematics Education Month.
Pre-schoolers to college students will be involved with projects in their schools which will be displayed at the Southampton Princess Hotel.
The projects will be used in workshops in conjunction with US General Colin Powell's visit to Bermuda early next month.
There will also be math games, a poster competition, and other related activities where children will be able to win prizes.
"It is with the support of you and your business that we will that we will have a successful day,'' Mrs. Jackie Tailford said.

TEENAGER FINED $400 FOR CANNABIS CTS Teenager fined $100 for cannabis Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis on Wedneday fined an 18-year-old man $100 for possessing cannabis.
Kyle Baxter, who is being held in Westgate prison on other charges, pleaded guilty to the offence.
Police prosecutor Sgt. Donald Grant told the Court that Baxter was arrested by Police officers in relation to another matter on November 30, last year.
Baxter was taken to the Somerset Police Station and searched, Sgt. Grant said, and an envelope was found in his back pocket containing plant material.
When asked what it was, Sgt. Grant said Baxter replied: "What does it look like?'' The plant material was later found to be .57 grams of cannabis.
