and a third place at the Junior Caribbean Championships in Guyana this week.

Sixteen year-old Nick Kyme took second place in the boys Under-19 event, 12-year-old James Stout was runner-up in the boys Under-14 division and Melissa Harvey placed third among the Under-16 girls.

Kyme and Stout went into their finals as the Caribbean Under-16 and Under-12 champions respectively but having moved up an age bracket found themselves against older, more experienced opponents as they both went down 3-0.

Kyme was beaten by the top seed, 18-year-old Regan Pollard of Guyana, 9-4, 9-5, 9-3 while Stout also faced the number one seed and current Under-14 champion, Gavin Cumberbatch of Barbados, as he lost 9-2, 9-1, 9-0.

Harvey, joint second with Tracy Roftt of Barbados and Giselle Ralbir of Trinidad and Tobago, needed a victory over Ralbir and then hope that Roftt defeated favourite Nicolette Fernandez of Guyana in order to win the Under-16 event.

However, it wasn't to be as Fernandez outclassed Roftt and Harvey, while clinching the the third game, was beaten 3-1.

In the girls Under-14s, Bermuda's 12-year-old Jessica Mitchell lost 3-1 in her final round robin match against Karina Lutchmeesingh of Trinidad and Tobago to finish fifth.

Nine-year-old Andrew Stout lost 3-0 in the final of the Under-12 plate competition to Trinidad's Allistair Van Sebtima, and D.Clarke went down 3-1 to Shawn Simpson of Barbados in the Under-14 plate final.

Meanwhile, in the team event which got underway on Thursday, Bermuda's boys scored a convincing 4-1 win over the Bahamas with Nick Kyme (U-19) defeating Trevor Knowles 3-0, Daniele Bortoni (U-19) downing Lemarc Major 3-0, James Stout (U-14) beating Rashad Butler 3-2 and Andrew Stout (U-12) getting past Scott Juro 3-0. Michael Stout was beaten 3-0 by Eric Lopez in the Under-16 match.

The boys then lost to Guyana 4-1 in a match of little interest as both teams had already advanced to the semi-finals.

Kyme again lost to Pollard, this time 3-1, while Bortoli lost to Javed Alli 3-0, Michael Stout to I.Mohabeer 3-0 and Andrew Stout to Ryan Farnum 3-0.

James Stout earned Bermuda's sole win, a 3-0 victory over Edwards Sears.

Bermuda's girls, represented by Melissa Harvey (U-16) and Jessica Mitchell (U-14) but without an Under-19 player, went down 2-1 to Barbados and 3-0 to Guyana, before losing their final match 3-0 to Trinidad and Tobago.
