Art on the runway
Fashion is not always accepted as an art form but all that is about to change tomorrow when the Bermuda Society of Arts hosts the Bermuda Collective Fashion Show.
BSoA co-president, photographer Charles Anderson said the gallery always wanted to diversify from its normal shows and feature another art form.
He came up with the fashion show idea after meeting designer Talibah.
"The idea struck me that there are probably quite a few people out there who design that we've never heard of, so let's get them together and do a show," he said.
Amethyst, Ashley Aitken, Dana Cooper, Dean Williams, Shay Ford, Talibah and Torri Simons will showcase their work.
"There are seven designers in total and each will be displaying between seven and nine garments," said Mr. Anderson. "For four of these designers this is their first time showing."
The BSoA will be transformed for the night.
"There will be an elevated catwalk in a T-shape, so the girls will enter through the main door of the gallery, step onto the catwalk and walk left and right strutting their stuff," Mr. Anderson explained.
He began working on the project around May. All the garments are for sale at the designer's set price.
On Friday night, models will parade some of the designs during the opening of three new BSoA exhibits 2010 Dreamscapes Collection by Gavin Howarth, Metal Gombeys by Teresa Airey and Small Works In Oil By Kok Wan Lee.
Doors open at 5.30 p.m. for the fashion show tomorrow night. The show will start promptly at 6 p.m. Latecomers will not be admitted.
Tickets, $30, are limited and are available at www.bdatix.bm or from the BSoA on 292-3824.
