House to debate pension increases
pensions for retired Government employees.
Minister of Finance Eugene Cox will present two draft orders aimed at boosting the payout to pensioners who used to work for Government by between 0.5 and four percent.
Also on the cards today is a new bill aimed at taking away the power of coroner's juries to identify the person considered to be responsible in cases of murder, manslaughter and the killing of children.
The new Act -- to be presented by Legislative Affairs Minister Lois Browne Evans -- was drawn up to give accused persons a fairer deal.
Under the current system, prosecutors can bypass preliminary hearings in court if a coroner's jury named names, although the standard of proof in Coroner's Court is not as high as that required under the Criminal Code.

BERMUDA ON THE AIR TV Bermuda on the air A top Canadian radio show will broadcast live from a local hotel next week.
The Breakfast Club, the number one rated morning show in Halifax, Nova Scotia, will broadcast from the Harmony Club between January 25 and 29.
Several local Bermudian personalities, as well as tourism industry personnel, will participate in the promotion which will be broadcast to the Metro Halifax area on C100FM.
The show is a result of a partnership effort between Harmony Club, the Bermuda Department of Tourism's local and Toronto offices, and Air Canada.
SPEEDER BANNED AGAIN CTS Speeder banned again A 29-year-old man with 12 previous convictions for driving while disqualified was banned from driving -- again.
Carlos Rogers, of Sinky Bay Road, Southampton pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to giving false statements to Police, riding while disqualified, and speeding at 67 kph on January 13.
And he also admitted speeding at 75 kph in a separate incident.
Rogers was last banned from driving in January, 1997 and was scheduled to return to the road this September.
But Senior Magistrate Will Francis banned the painter from all vehicles for one year and from motorcycles for two years.
Mr. Francis also ordered him to pay $280 for speeding at 67 kph, $500 for speeding at 75 kph, $300 for giving false information, and two fines of $300 for twice driving while disqualified.
And he imposed two suspended prison sentences of three months.
PROWLER INTERRRUPTED CRM Prowler interrupted A prowler fled empty handed after being spotted by an eagle-eyed resident in the Underhill Lane area of Pembroke on Wednesday night.
The prowler, dressed all in black, was spotted acting suspiciously around two homes in the area and ran when he realised he had been spotted.
Earlier on Wednesday a sneak thief got away with cash after breaking into a Paget guest house in broad daylight.
Guests returned to their room to find it had been raided and a quantity of cash taken from a purse.
