The shootings that took place this weekend were gang-related, Assistant Police Commissioner Antoine Daniels confirmed today.Gunshots were reported in Southampton and Pembroke on Friday; more gunfire was heard in Warwick yesterday morning.No reports of injuries were received by police.“Although investigators have not formally linked the three incidents, the evidence gathered thus far indicates that these shootings are gang-related and not random,” Mr Daniels said.Police responded to reports of gunshots being fired in the Camp Hill, Fork Lane area in Southampton shortly after 10pm.Officers responded to shots being fired in the area of Parson’s Road near Deepdale in Pembroke about 10.45pm that night.More shots were heard just before 2am on Sunday in the Cedar Hill area of Warwick.A 24-year-old Warwick man was arrested in relation to that incident, on suspicion of committing firearms-related offences.“Members of the community will undoubtedly be alarmed by these three separate firearms incidents that occurred over the weekend,” said Mr Daniels.“Recently we have all enjoyed a relative period of calm; however the Bermuda Police Service continues to work hard to target those persons that continue to commit firearms offences.“The BPS wish to assure the Bermuda community that full investigations into these three matters have commenced, resources have been realigned to assist with these investigations, while additionally providing reassurance to the affected neighbourhoods through high visibility police patrols and home visits by our Community Action Teams.”Anyone with information, or anyone who saw two males on dark-coloured motorcycles, wearing dark clothing immediately before or after these three incidents occurred, is asked to contact police on 295-0011, or the Crime Stoppers Confidential Hotline on 1-800-8477 (TIPS).“In closing I take this opportunity on behalf of the BPS to thank all those persons who have come forward and provided assistance thus far,” said Mr Daniels.“The BPS is extremely encouraged by the amount of assistance received from the public recently resulting in progress being made in a number of high-profile investigations, but as I often say the Bermuda Police Service’s capacity to deal with crime depends to a large extent upon its relationship with the community.”
