of the Colonial Open following a comprehensive 6-2, 6-2 defeat by unseeded Kirk Menansen.
During a busy weekend schedule, the fourth seed, who won this year's Heineken and Bacardi titles, had no answer for a deft Menansen drop-shot at match point, nor much else during the match.
And the fiery Daniels vividly displayed his frustration at the end of the contest, smashing his racquet on the court in disgust.
Menansen, meanwhile, revelled in victory.
"I just played the best I could and I was lucky enough to win,'' he said.
Jensen Bascome, the second seed, was forced to dig deep in order to overcome Chris Watson, needing three sets before finally advancing 4-6, 6-0, 6-4.
Third seed Greg Frigerio had no such trouble against number five, Sam Maybury, winning in straight sets.
In Ladies `A' action, Federation Cup team member Danielle Downey was surprised by newcomer Tracy Berrell 6-4, 5-7, 6-0. Berrell, also playing Ladies `B', likewise got by Midge Oliver in straight sets, but was at the losing end of a three hour marathon match with third seed Zina Edwards, going down 1-6, 7-6 (9-7), 6-3.
Also in Ladies `B', Mary Giordano beat young Ashley Brooks, while Pat Pamplin bested Zoe Fisher. Giordano then proved too much for Pamplin in seizing a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
Providing a classy slugfest was the mixed doubles quarter-final featuring Mark Cordeiro and Jill Finnegan against the teenage tandem of Phillip Sousa and Sasha Fisher. Cordeiro and Finnegan rallied from 2-5 down in the second to win 6-3, 7-5.
In ladies doubles, Barbara Lambert and Wendy Gelhay advanced past Iola Rocker and Pat Pamplin 6-4, 6-0, while Zarah DeSilva and Sasha Fisher did likewise against Shonette Wilson and Shelly Eve.
There was a mild upset in Men's `B' as number five seed, Howard Cross, defeated number two Jason Hope 6-2, 6-3.
