In honour of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday, Mrs. Nichola Cunha’s Saltus Year 5 class presented an assembly on his life and asked the audience of staff, students and parents to think about what they are doing for others to make the world a better place.
They presented a skit on Martin Luther King, Jr.’s accomplishments, and talked about his “I have a dream speech” in turn speaking about their dreams. They sang several songs, including “We Shall Overcome” and “Dream Your Dreams,” and recited the “The Crayon Box that Talked” poem by Shane DeRolf, which the US Ad Council took as the theme for their 1997 National Anti-Discrimination Campaign for Children.
