New-look team to promote insurance industry

ACE's executive vice president Mr. Bill Loschert, who was in Los Angeles during yesterday's earthquake, has been assembling the new-look team which will be charged with international promotion and development of Bermuda's insurance industry.
Officially known as the marketing committee, the 15-strong group is one of several operating under the direction of the Insurance Advisory Committee (IAC), the statutory body empowered under the Insurance Act to advise the Minister of Finance on insurance industry matters.
Mr. Loschart, who heads ACE's underwriting activities, is a newly-appointed IAC member. He became marketing committee chairman on January 1.
The committee will become more structured, and focus on projects such as the biennial Bermuda insurance symposium, the Bermuda Insurance Update newsletter, and the annual RIMS meeting.
A sub-committee has been formed to supply Bermuda-based industry speakers to insurance conferences overseas, and five new committee members have been taken on.
Other recent initiatives include the creation of an information services office within the Bermuda Insurance Institute (BII) secretariat.
The new members are broker Mr. Giles North, property catastrophe underwriter Mr. Stephen Outerbridge, insurance management executive Mr. Bob Hug, accountant Mr. Jan Spiering, who has agreed to act as treasurer of the group, and BII president Mr. Glen Gibbons.
"The choice of our new members reflects a need for the committee to show the participation of new companies which have invested heavily in Bermuda,'' said Mr. Loschert.
"The choice provides for a wider industry representation in our marketing efforts.'' Other marketing committee private sector members are deputy chairman Mr. Roger Gillett, Mr. Andrew Carr, Mr. Colin Muirhead, Mr. Rob Rosser, Mr. Pell Price, Mr. Robin Spencer-Arscott, Mr. Chesley White and Ms Lisa Marshall. Government members are the Ministry of Finance's permanent secretary Dr. Walwyn Hughes, and the Registrar of Companies, Mr. Malcolm Butterfield.
