Mark Trott revealed yesterday that he had applied to Bermuda Football Association for the job of senior national team coach -- but he has no interest in becoming technical director.

Trott, who has been heavily involved with the national programme over the past decade, said he would relish the challenge of coaching Bermuda and hinted that, if chosen, he would be keen to blood several young players soon.

"I never run from a challenge and this would be a great challenge for me,'' said Trott. "It would be an honour and a privilege for me and I would give it a thousand percent.

"Having played cricket for the national team in the ICC Trophy, I know it's the greatest feeling you can have, representing your country.'' Trott, head coach of the Olympic team last year and assistant coach of the World Cup side, made it clear that he would not be tempted by the technical director's job, if and when it was advertised.

"I love coaching, that's what I want to do and that's where my heart will stay. I believe there are other individuals in Bermuda who have the ability to be technical director. With the salary attached to the job, I expect there will be some people applying from outside Bermuda as well.'' Trott has a coaching record of eight wins, seven draws and eight defeats in major fixtures with national teams at various levels. And he guided an under-23 team to the Pan-Am Games in 1995.

With his application, he submitted a document outlining his plans for the team, what he would expect from players and his soccer philosophy, in which the team ethic features heavily.

"I'm pretty organised, I pay a lot of attention to detail and I feel like I've become a student of the game over the years,'' he said, when asked for his strengths.

"If I were chosen, I'd like to sit down with the people who had selected me and see what their goals and aspirations for the team are. Once I know that, I would take it from there.

"From what I've read, the comments of Mr Beard and the (BFA) president, it looks like the association are more interested in getting the team back playing in the international arena than on results in this particular tournament (Copa Carib).

Trott chases coaching post From Page 13 "And that would put whoever is chosen as coach in a pretty good position in that they could take a few chances and bring in younger players without the results counting against them.

"It would also take pressure off the players. And that might have a good psychological effect on them and they might perform better than you expect and surprise a few people.'' Trott added that he would need no encouragement to bring in young blood.

"If selected, I would look to bring in some new faces. Having said that, I feel there is a nucleus of players who would still be used.

"When you look at players like Timmy Figureido, Kentoine Jennings, Shannon Burgess and Devarr Boyles, to name but a few, they are all still really good players and have a lot to offer.

"But there are a number of younger players who haven't made their full international debuts like Jamel Warren, Joey Rego, Anthony Thomas and Nakia Smith.

"And there are some even younger players like Dennis Russell at Paget, who I think is a tremendous talent and maybe this is an opportunity to give him a chance. And then there are players like Raymond Beach and Heys Wolfe.

"They are players who come straight to mind who I would like to have a look at in training.'' Mark Trott: Eager to lead the national senior team.
