The Bank of Bermuda has given more than $250,000 to a number of students to help them fund their education.

Twelve students picked up awards of up to $80,000, which will be paid out in annual instalments.

The Sir John W. Cox Scholarship for post graduate studies was awarded to Cara Louise Wallington, 22, who, after completing a science degree, will now be studying medicine at Nottingham University.

Saltus Grammar School graduate Trevor Leitch won the Sir Henry Tucker University Scholarship and will now take a mathematics degree at Princetown University.

Three runners up to the Sir Henry Tucker University Scholarship, Benjamin Davies, Hannah Ellison and Sarah Winstanley, each picked up a $6,000 a year award.

This year's Bank of Bermuda Information Technology Scholarship winner is Bermuda College graduate Loren Emery who is off to Acadia University to study computer science.

Six other students picked up $4,000 awards for scholastic achievement.

Ty-Ron Douglas, Catherine Leite, Terjuan Lister, Shane Mora, Serena Paul and Erika Powell will all be going overseas to start degree courses.

Presenting the awards Bank of Bermuda President Henry Smith said: "It is a great pleasure to be able to present the scholarships to these young Bermudian students.
