Vital draw gives BAA the chance to survive
BAA snatched a vital point from this First Division match at BAA yesterday to keep their hopes of staying in the top flight very much alive.
But prospects for the Green Knights still remain grim as they must find a way to pull themselves clear of the relegation battle at the bottom of the tables -- which has apparently developed into a three-team tussle also involving Devonshire Cougars and St. George's.
An extra hurdle for BAA is that their two remaining games are against tough opposition. They have no easy task in match-ups against Boulevard away and Dandy Town at home.
But in this game BAA were only just prevented from taking both points when Ty Williams in the PHC goal made a brilliant save by diving full length to his left only seconds from full time to save a blast from substitute Duncan Ashworth.
But the home team were fortunate in being allowed to grab their only goal through Dennis Davis after six minutes.
Centre-half Frankie Ming, failing to make a clearance deep in his own half, allowed Davis to gain possession and the speedy striker gratefully steered the ball home from a few yards out.
PHC got the equaliser after 47 minutes when Raynel Lightbourne netted from close range.
Despite falling behind early on PHC were never outplayed and they remained competitive until the interval although they often looked inept up front where their forwards showed a reluctance to get their shots off.
During counter attacks BAA looked more dangerous with Troy Harvey energetic in midfield, but they too were missing finishing prowess.
PHC were twice denied goals just before the half with Paul Hayward in the BAA goal diving to save shots from Jamel Robinson.
Once PHC grabbed the equaliser, after Winston Trott provided the cross that allowed Lightbourne to score, PHC were allowed to come into the game with momentum.
But time and again their build-up work was ruined by poor passing inside the area. Twice Sheridan Ming and Roderick Lewis powered long-range shots over the bar.
After a long period of intense PHC pressure BAA bounced back near the end with Ashworth twice forcing Williams to show his agility in the PHC goal to save the day for the visitors.
