MP has no job ? according to register
Southampton West Central MP Jon Brunson is unemployed, at least according to the Parliamentary Register of Interests.
Mr. Brunson indicated ?No? to all questions about directorships, shareholdings, the receiving of gifts, and any positions he holds where he receives any form of remuneration or has a pecuniary interest ? including a job.
However when The Royal Gazette attempted to track Mr. Brunson down for comment, his employers ? Orbis Investment Management ? said he was off the Island. Mr. Brunson is the human resources manager at the company.
?I am sure it is an honest oversight,? Opposition Leader Grant Gibbons said yesterday.
?We as a party are obviously committed to filling out the forms, we agree with the process and were part of the House Committee setting it up.?
Dr. Gibbons promised Mr. Brunson would correct the mistake when he returns to the Island next week.
Oversight or not, Mr. Brunson has at least filled the forms out, and several other MPs have updated the Register since this newspaper ran a story on the issue in January.
However Housing Minister Ashfield DeVent, his Shadow counterpart Wayne Furbert, and Senator and Attorney General Larry Mussenden, and senators Raymond Tannock, Walter Roban and Leonard Santucci still have not filled out the Register.
Since January, MPs Suzann Holshouser, Glenn Blakeney, George Scott, and Patricia Gordon-Pamplin, and Senators Carol Ann Bassett, Kim Swan, and Kenny Bascome have updated the Register with their own information.
The new entries saw Ms Holshouser declare herself part of the customer service team at Bacardi International Ltd., and a part-time weather presenter at the Bermuda Broadcasting Company.
Glenn Blakeney declared himself a director of Inter-Island Communications Ltd., the sole proprietor of Bayview Productions, and the advertising and promotions manager for TeleBermuda International Ltd. George Scott put himself down as chairman/president of Advanced Tech Solutions Ltd. and the chief organiser of the Bermuda Industrial Union, and Patricia Gordon-Pamplin updated her own entry to show her position as account manager at Liberty International Management (Bermuda) Ltd.
Carol Ann Bassett put herself down as a BF&M director and senior vice president, while Kim Swan listed himself as the marketing manager at Gosling Brothers Ltd. Kenny Bascome noted he was self-employed at his bar and restaurant in St. George?s, Kippie?s Place.
Though the register was reported to be ?a ramshackle bundle? the last time it was seen by this newspaper, when it was shown by Clerk to the Legislature Shernette Wolffe on Friday it was tidy and alphabetised, with copies of all the forms inside.
