Man uses fake money

A 21-year-old man has admitted using a fake $100 bill to buy drinks at a bar.Lo-Torean Durrant, of Claytown, Hamilton Parish, pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court to using the bill at the Bermuda Bistro Bar on August 4 knowing it was fake. He also admitted having control of the money.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner heard Durrant was in the bar at 12.20am when he tried to leave with two drinks in his hand.A security officer told him he had to finish the drinks before leaving, and the defendant attempted to drink them quickly before the bartender told the security officer he had given her a fake $100 bill.The defendant continued to try to leave the bar but was detained by the security officer and was later arrested.Durrant told police he found the money on the street as he was walking to the Front Street establishment.“I was drunk, I was coming from a family picnic. Then I went to Spinning Wheel, then the Beach and I found it on the street.”Asked by Mr Warner if he knew the money was counterfeit, Durrant said no.Mr Warner adjourned the matter until December 14 and ordered a social inquiry report. Durrant was given $2,000 bail.
