PriceWaterhouseCoopers partner Raymond Medeiros said yesterday the firm - which resulted from the merger of PriceWaterhouse and Coopers Lybrand - does take an active role in encouraging Bermudians to go in to the accounting field.
Mr. Medeiros, a Bermudian, said he got his start with the firm, and then "rose through the ranks to manager and now partner". Mr. Medeiros added that a number of Bermuda's top executives - including Accountant General Anthony Richardson, and Auditor General Larry Dennis - got their start through the company. PriceWaterhouse claims to have been the largest training ground for accountancy students in Bermuda, over many years.
Mr. Medeiros said the firm believes it has a responsibility to encourage Bermudian accounting students. And to that end the company has a support programme, for its student trainees, which includes mentoring and work experience. Mr. Medeiros added that PWC also makes presentations to the Island's schools, and was active in the recent Careers Fair.
