The Queen visits Dockyard

Our pictures show some of the highlights of the Queen's visit to the Dockyard on Wednesday.At middle are students of Sandys Middle School who featured in the re-enactment of a traditional Bermuda Wedding. It took place on the second floor of the Clock Tower Mall, where the Queen close up was introduced to former apprentices (top), who began their careers at the Dockyard.Bottom, 102-year-old Mrs. Hilda Smith, a retired school teacher is at the piano awaiting the arrival of the Royal Party for which she played the National Anthem. Other seniors looking on are Miss Hope Bascome, 99, former teacher accompanied by her nephew, Dr. Glen Bascome. She is one of last two living members of the first class of students who entered Sandys Secondary School when it opened 83 years ago. Also seated are Mrs. Diane Trott, Mrs. Lucille Zuill and Mrs. Alice Bean. Spectators awaiting arrival of the Royal Party were accommodated in a big tent across from the Mall. They watched as the Queen unveiled a plaque commemorating the 200th anniversary of the founding of the Dockyard.
