February 1: Jermaine Pearman, the murderer of Shakeya DeRoza is sentenced to life in prison not to be eligible for parole for another 25 years.February 2: Media Council of Bermuda officially launched. Twenty media outlets subscribed to its code of practice. Members of the public can complain to the body about violations of the code.February 5: Auditor General gives Government third consecutive qualified audit.February 10: Bus service stopped after driver fired. The driver had called in sick but worked a different shift refuelling buses for a colleague.February 8: More than 800 people turn up for a hospitality jobs fair organised by Government. Just 155 jobs were available.February 19: The much anticipated 2011/12 budget is unveiled. The big news is a payroll tax rollback which reversed a two percentage points rise in 2010.But the budgets projected a deficit of $147 million against revenues of $940 million. And many charities had their grants cut.February 21: Storm force winds battered the Island with gusts reaching 76 knots.February 23: Just a quarter of residents believe that Government can turn the economy around, according to a poll conducted for The Royal Gazette.February 26: Opposition United Bermuda Party criticises the Budget as a “Plan to avoid a Plan” in its Reply to the Budget
