A woman was taken to hospital with breathing difficulties after a kitchen fire at a Warwick home today.

Bermuda Fire Service responded to reports of smoke coming from the property on Ord Road at about 9.15am. One fire engine staffed with four firefighters attended.

Fire Service spokesman Leonard Davis said: “The duty crew arrived on scene in approximately ten minutes to discover a residence filled with smoke and one person suffering from breathing difficulties due to smoke inhalation.”

On-duty Sergeant Scott Quinn added: “Smoke extractors were used to aid in ventilating the property. The victim was given oxygen and a nebuliser to help assist with their breathing.

“Once it was determined that the individual was still experiencing breathing difficulties, they were transported to KEMH by ambulance staff for further observations.”

Mr Davis said a pot on the stove was believed to be the cause, resulting in a hot grease fire.
