Market approved
The Development Applications Board approved the plans by Walter Stevens to build a store on Sound View Road.
It will mean a move from his existing premises on Main Road after the new shop is constructed on open land.
The store will sell household goods, including food and bulk items, said Christine Rickards of agents Erwin Adderley.
Included in the scheme is a community meeting area in the basement. The room will be used by the church and other community groups who need a place to meet.
In other planning news, the DAB also turned down applications for four homes on South Shore Road, Southampton because insufficient information was supplied with the applications.
In addition, a scheme submitted by John Tucker to turn a classroom at the former St. George's Secondary school into a carpentry shop was approved. Also in St. George, plans to convert two shops on York Street in to a take-out restaurant were withdrawn.
The DAB approved the following applications: Dwelling unit on Verdmont Road, Smith's Parish; Porch and storage room, Southcote Road, Paget; Renovations to home, Pitts Bay Road, Pembroke; and Erection of a dog run, Tranquility Hill, Sandys.
The following applications were refused: A living room and dwelling unit on Poinciana Road, Devonshire; and A dwelling unit, garage, pool, Point Shares Road, Pembroke.
