US mum is caught with drugs by Bermuda Customs

A single mother from Connecticut was fined after pleading guilty to importing cocaine and ecstasy into Bermuda.

Lindsay Marcus, 34, a marketing assistant from Norwalk, Connecticut, was caught by Bermuda Customs after trace amounts of cocaine were found on her laptop during a routine search on October 17.

According to Crown counsel Cindy Clarke, after an ion scan revealed trace amounts of drugs on the surface of the computer, officers made the decision to search Marcus.

While being held for further questioning, an officer noticed Marcus fidgeting, and a small plastic bag containing white powder drop to the ground from the inside of her pant leg.

When asked about the bag, she admitted the contents were cocaine. Lab tests later confirmed that the bag contained 3.73 grams of cocaine.

On a further search, officers found a green pill in her handbag, which was later found to be 0.27 grams of Ecstasy.

In Magistrates' Court yesterday, Marcus pleaded guilty to importing the drugs to the Island.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined her a total of $3,000 for the offences, and ordered the fines to be paid by the end of the day.
