Cobbs Hill Gospel Chapel to host ‘Community BBQ’

Bermuda needs to return to the times when more people in the community looked out for one another — that’s the message from Cobbs Hill Gospel Chapel. The Chapel will be hosting its fifth annual ‘Community BBQ’ this Saturday from 5pm to 8pm (rain date on August 24).Elder Sal Tucci who is a member of the church said: “All are invited and there is absolutely no charge for anything at the event. We will also be hosting our annual Community family service the next day, August 18 at 11:15am. It is our sincere hope that people will take part in both events.”The event will provide food, games, music and other fun action, including prizes. Mr Tucci said: “In a word, ‘fun’. We’re going to have a snowball station, popcorn station, hot dogs, hamburgers, music, games, prizes and other activities. In addition to all the activities, we hope people will simply take the time to relax and enjoy meeting and talking with other members of the community.”The church has expressed that their motivation for this community gathering is traced back to Jesus. Elder Tucci s quoted Mathew 5: 14 — 16: “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”Cobbs Hill Gospel Chapel believes that there is a special purpose to being placed in the Cobbs Hill and Ord Road area. He said: “We believe God has placed us smack in the middle of the Cobbs Hill/Ord Road area for more than simply ‘having church’ on Sundays. There is an entire community right on our doorstep that has both physical and spiritual needs. It would be wrong of us to have the ability to meet both needs and simply keep it to ourselves. Hence, the Community BBQ is an opportunity to do just that.”The organisers are hoping to accomplish their goal to spread more awareness about their faith and community at the gathering. Mr. Tucci said: “First and foremost, we want people to become aware of God and the love He has for them. We endeavour to accomplish this by simply spending time with the community and making people aware of the various programs (bible studies, youth programs, worship services) that they can join us for at Cobbs Hill Gospel Chapel. We also hope that people become aware of other members of the community and the importance of getting back to a time where neighbours know and cared about the well-being of each other.”There will be additional activities available for the entire family. The Elder said: “We’re going to have various competitive games for prizes, bouncy castles, and a DJ cranking out the best of Christian reggae and classics. We also always have a special exhibit (last year we had a group perform a Christian ‘step’ routine) which we keep a surprise until the time of the event. The evening is capped off by a special visit of the Warwick Gombey troupe.”Cobbs Hill Gospel Chapel encourages the members of the community to come out and enjoy a time of fun and fellowship.
