Netball season delayed until January ʽout of abundance of caution’
The Bermuda Netball Association has delayed the start of the Winter League season “out of an abundance of caution” after a member of staff at a middle school tested positive for the coronavirus.
The season was scheduled to commence today at Bernard Park but will now start on January 9, 2021 instead.
The Ministry of Education confirmed yesterday that a member of staff at Dellwood Middle School, in Pembroke, tested positive for the coronavirus.
A government spokeswoman said that eight staff were told by the Ministry of Health to quarantine.
Those in quarantine were subsequently tested and one additional member of staff has tested positive for the coronavirus, forcing the BNA to take precautionary measures to safeguard players, officials and spectators.
“In light of the new information released from the Ministry of Health as it relates to Dellwood Middle School students and faculty, we regret to inform you that the BNA will be suspending the start of the Winter League Netball Season,” Kimale Evans, the BNA president, said in a press release.
“In an effort to safeguard our players, coaches and affiliates, out of an abundance of caution all divisions will start January 9, 2021.
“Please continue to do your part in keeping yourselves, your loved ones and our island safe, by staying abreast and adhering to the Bermuda Government recommendations as it relates to Covid-19.”
