Pitcher Alan Winston combined mound artistry with some batting muscle in leading the way for BF&M. Winston's bat was smoking, going five-for-five and driving in two runs for the champions. Donny Moniz contributed four hits while Andrew Fletcher added three hits of his own. Both Moniz and Fletcher drove in a pair of runs each.

For the losers, it was Dane Brown and Neil Movold who added sock to BSL's line-up. Brown connected for four hits while Movold swatted a double and then a single.

BSL fudged an opportunity to overhaul BF&M in the bottom of the seventh inning with runners at first and second. Power hitter Jeff Burgess sprayed a line drive, which was snared by Moniz for the final out, handing BF&M the title and pitcher Richard Miller the loss.

Cock & Feather -- trailing 11-10 -- stormed back in their half of the seventh, erupting for five runs to defeat Gateway Herd 15-12 for the Division A crown.

Ian Chalmers led the offensive charge with a two-run double followed by RBI hits from Pat Mouchette and Chris Schuller.

The bulk of C&F's hitting was shared by Schuller, who was four-for-four including a home run and double, Lloyd Jenkins, who had three hits in four at-bats and Roberto Maraghua who laced two hits, one for extra bases.

Dennis Pamplin was credited with his third pitching victory of the series while Mark Kaplen was tagged with the loss. Kaplen attempted to be his own one-man wrecking crew with two hits -- a home run and double -- in three plate appearances. Dick Hudson blasted a home run to drive in three runs and Gary Carr also had a round-tripper.

BASEBALL BB Bank of Bermuda Royals and English Sports Shop Phillies remained unbeaten after three matches in the Bermuda Youth Sports Programme Rookie League to head the standings.

Royals were given a battle by Batson Swan Reds in their match on Saturday before emerging 9-5 victors, while Phillies had little trouble getting by Ace Mets by an 11-3 margin.

Butterfield and Steinhoff Mariners meanwhile, picked up their first win of the season, a 14-9 hammering of Bermuda Forwarders Pirates.

In Little League action, World Distributors Reds suffered their first defeat of the season as Mailboxes Unlimited Cardinals beat them 18-5.

The day's remaining contest saw Gray and Kempe Pirates explode for 22 runs against Island Press Mariners, who could only reply with eight of their own.

CHESS CHS Eric Keen went unbeaten through four rounds of the Bank of Butterfield Bermuda Championships last week.

He remained the only player to accumulate maximum points from the opening rounds, but will face his toughest test to date when he takes on top seed Nick Faulks in tonight's glamour match-up.

Faulks last week gained revenge for an earlier loss to Phil Shadick, and will be seeking further redemption against Keen.

DARTS DRT Elizabeth Simons captured the women's Champion of Champions event on Friday with a sterling 7-1 record. She suffered her only loss at the hands of last year's champion, Jean Clark, who finished in a tie for second place with Lynn Somner with a 6-2 record.

The highlight of the event came when Simons scored a perfect 180 in her match against Carla Hill. In her first match she stopped Joan Burrows, then went on to dispose of Kathy Roberts, Marilyn Lewis, Somner, Maureen Aubrey, Hill and Debbie Nesbitt.

Clark eventually won the second-place play-off against Somner.

There were a total of 29 tons scored in the evening's matches, plus two in the play-off.
