Teen fined

$600 for his part in a "malicious, unwarranted and unprovoked'' attack on a delivery man whom he hit with a crash helmet and kicked four times.

Germaine Devaughn Trott, 20, of Alexander Road, admitted attacking Wok restaurant delivery man Courtney Rawlins with a crash helmet last August 16.

Trott would only say: "I thought he was making a pass at me.'' Sgt. Rex Osborne, prosecuting, said Rawlins was riding alone on Mary Victoria Road in Devonshire, when a group of men stopped him.

A scuffle broke out after some comments were exchanged and Rawlins received a shoulder injury which required hospital treatment.

Trott admitted to Police that he kicked Rawlins four times and hit him with once with a crash helmet.

But Mr. Francis said: "I don't see any excuse for this kind of attack on someone who was simply riding along the road making a delivery. This seems like purely malicious, unwarranted, unprovoked, harassment.

"There is simply too much of this going on in the community. This sort of ganging up and attacking people doesn't make sense.''
