Shermaine Janice Riley, of Mount Hill Road, St. George's, admitted two charges in Magistrates' Court last week of assaulting women following arguments outside nightclubs.

The first, on September 7 at 2.15 a.m., took place outside the Spinning Wheel night club. There had reportedly been tension between Riley and the victim, Karen McCallen, and their friends all evening, said Sgt. Earl Kirby, prosecuting.

When the victim left, a fight began on the pavement outside between the two groups. Riley hit McCallen's back with a cane, bruising her. When the Police arrived, she admitted the offence.

The second assault took place at about midnight on September 9 outside the Caribbean Lounge in St. George's. An altercation flared into a fight between the accused and her friend, Shenika Minors, reported Sgt. Kirby.

Ms Simmons set a prison sentence of one month for each assault, noting that Riley was already serving a two-month sentence for breaching her probation.

She told Riley her sentences could not run concurrently.

Riley also admitted three traffic offences which occurred on August 22, when Riley was caught by Police after disobeying a stop sign. She was not wearing a helmet, and Police also found she did not have a driver's licence, said Sgt.

Kirby.

She was fined $200 for disobeying the traffic sign and not wearing a helmet, and $150 for not having a driver's license.

When the Wor. Charles-Etta Simmons asked if she needed time to pay these fines, Riley replied: "I'll take the days, please.'' She also pleaded guilty to the drugs charge.

Sgt. Kirby reported that Police, acting on information, went into Riley's house with a search warrant at 10.05 p.m. on August 16 this year, said Sgt.

Kirby.

A search uncovered a small amount of plant material, later determined to be 0.46 grammes of cannabis, said Sgt. Kirby. Riley admitted to Police that the cannabis was hers.

Mr. Mark Pettingill, representing Riley, said: "This is a young lady desperately trying to get it all together. She is now receiving help.'' Ms Simmons imposed a $100 fine, which Riley accepted as 10 days in prison.

Riley said she was not working, so accepted 45 days in prison in lieu of her fines.
