Car catches on fire after hitting wall

A driver was arrested on suspicion impaired driving last night after the car he was driving caught on fire after colliding with a wall.

Police said shortly before 8pm police and firefighters were called to a single vehicle collision near the junction of Middle Road and Tee Street, Devonshire.

The car reportedly struck a wall near the junction before it came to a stop west of the junction and caught on fire.

The male driver of the vehicle has been arrested on suspicion of driving while impaired.

Traffic was diverted from the area while the fire service extinguished the blaze and staff from the Department of Public Works cleared the roadway which was reopened at about 10.15pm.
