Top US speaker to address AME church congregation
to be one of the United States' most uplifting speakers.
Mr. George Arnold is famed in the US for his good work, outstanding speeches and his ability to remember all of the major speeches made by the late Dr.
Martin Luther King.
His primary reason for visiting Bermuda was to join the golden wedding anniversary celebrations of Mr. Kenneth and Mrs. Olive Trott on New Year's Eve.
Mr. Arnold has known Mrs. Trott for many years but had never before visited the Island.
On arriving he was given a guided tour by local businessman Mr. Fred Thomas and remarked: "Fred greeted me as though he had known me for a long time, and that is the reaction I have had from many people.
"Visiting Bermuda has been very enlightening because of the mix and the togetherness here. It is very relaxing and warm.'' But Mr. Thomas said that Mr. Arnold's visit would benefit the Bermuda community and they would try to persuade him to come back soon.
Mr. Arnold is an avid reader of Martin Luther King's works. He has made more than 1,400 presentations at churches, colleges, civic organisations and on radio and television in the US.
During the 20th Anniversary March on Washington, before 250,000 people, he delivered the opening keynote speech, Dr. King's "I've been to a mountain top.'' He has shared the platform with Dr. King, and the Rev. Jesse Jackson during rallies in the past.
Said Mr. Thomas: "Mr. Arnold is an uplifting speaker. It will be a joy to hear him speak.'' WELCOME! -- Mr. George Arnold, famed in the US for his recital of Dr. Martin Luther King speeches, is greeted by Mr. Fred Thomas.
