Boulevard survive shoot-out
(after extra time) Boulevard won on penalties 4-1 Last night's first round Friendship Trophy clash went into penalty kicks but most observers wouldn't have minded if there had been a replay.
In an entertaining clash that finally ended at 12.10 this morning, Boulevard moved on after scoring four straight goals from the spot in a shoot-out.
Besides the penalties, a large crowd at PHC Stadium witnessed six goals, two of which came in extra-time, six yellow cards and constant end to end action before the match was decided when Leonard Hypolite beat 'keeper Randy Darrell with a drive to the top right corner.
Dean Boyles, Rodney Bascome and Stevie Wade also scored with penalties for Boulevard. Ascento Russell netted for Rangers, his penalty sandwiched by misses from Olin Jones and Jerry Webb.
Rangers had opened the scoring in the 10th minute on a brilliant 30-yard volley from Janeiro Tucker. But Bascome equalised 12 minutes later when he knocked down a waist high cross and drove his shot past Darrell.
Russell put Rangers in front again from a Kwami Tucker rebound but Boulevard refused to buckle, drawing level from Vernon Phillips' 84th minute goal set up by a slick move from Dwight Warren along the goal-line.
Russell then missed on a breakaway two minutes from the end, ensuring that the match would go into extra-time.
After a scoreless first 15 minutes, the same player made amends when he converted substitute Neville Grant's short pass.
But two minutes later and four minutes before the final whistle, Boulevard equalised for the final time as Rodney Bascome ran onto a long cross from Warren before burying his shot.
Rangers Janeiro Tucker was a marked man throughout the night and was finally knocked out of the game at the end of the first period of extra-time with an injured left ankle.

Any BAA comeback hopes were dimmed when Dean Smith was sent off after picking up his second yellow card in the 106th minute.
