Boyles' boys set for US workout

Devarr Boyles

A Bermuda national youth team is heading to Florida next week for three competitive matches in preparation for important future tournaments.

The Bermuda under-15 squad will travel to the US on Monday where they will play two games against USL SuperYLeague finalists, Shultz Academy, and also take on a team from the IMG Academy in Bradenton.

Head coach, and youth director ,Devarr Boyles and under-20 national team coach Scott Morton will accompany the 21-man squad.

Bermuda Football Association technical director Derek Broadley said the main purpose of the trip was to provide the players with competitive football ahead of next year's Clyde Best Invitational Tournament and the under-17 World Cup qualifiers.

"The players will not be going out to the US for a training camp, this tour is about competitive football," said Broadley.

"Shultz Academy are a very competitive team and are preparing for their SuperYLeague final.

"We also play a team from the IMG Academy, where the US national youth teams train, and that should also be a good test for us.

"With the Clyde Best Tournament and under-17 World Cup qualifiers coming up it's important our players experience some more overseas competition."

Bermuda play Shultz Academy on Tuesday November 10 and Friday November 14, and IMG Academy on Wednesday November 12.

Shultz Academy are coached by Dr Josef Schulz, an A Licensed and National Youth Licensed coach and former professional player from the Austrian Premier Division.

The Bermuda under-15 team had been due to travel to an international nine-team tournament in Guadeloupe last April, but it was cancelled due to political unrest in the Caribbean country.

Early this year two Bermuda under-15 select teams delivered impressive performances against MLS academy outfit Colorado Rapids and a youth team from French side FC Sochaux during the Clyde Best Invitational Tournament.
