Willow Cuts skipper Dexter Basden is adamant his side won’t take Somerset Bridge lightly when the two teams lock horns today at Somerset Cricket Club in the Western Counties.Cuts snatched the cup from PHC in emphatic fashion last weekend courtesy of Basden’s 115 who shared in an opening stand of 137 with Chris Douglas (58).With Bridge next on the radar, Basden insists his side won’t fall into the trap of underestimating their opponents, especially given the game is a derby clash.“It’s another tricky task in Somerset Bridge, but we haven’t changed any of our preparations,” said Basden. “We aren’t taking them lightly because I can recall them beating us a few years back when we had bowled them out for 87 and they got us for 86, so it will be business as usual.“It’s a derby, it’s like us playing Somerset so they will bring their ‘A’ game and we won’t think of them as any less of a team than we have played so it will be a good game and we will be looking to defend our crown.”Cuts won’t change much from the winning team a week ago, although it appears that George O’Brien jr. may not feature due to being called up for St. George’s second trial match today at Wellington Oval.The fast bowler missed the first trial match last weekend as he played in the win over PHC.“Our team will remain the same in large part so we will see how it goes on the day,” said Basden.“Obviously we want to give everyone a chance to play but we can’t change a winning formula.“I will be out there and we will try to have fun, that’s the main thing about the game, you have to have fun in order to enjoy it.”Cuts won’t have time to rest on the result of today’s match with a rematch of last weekend’s game against PHC on the cards for tomorrow in Premier Division action at PHC Stadium.PHC, currently bottom of the table after Young Men’s Social Club dropped out, need to start winning if they are to have any hope of staying in the top flight.There’s also a battle between two teams heading in opposite directions when St. George’s tackle Southampton Rangers at Southampton Oval.St. George’s are hot on the heels of league leaders St. David’s in the race for the title, while champions Rangers are languishing in the bottom three and are in desperate need of a win to get their season back on track and climb out of the relegation zone.In the day’s other game, St. David’s welcome Eastern Counties rivals Bailey’s Bay in what could be deemed a County game after St. David’s withdrew from this year’s competition.n The Eastern Counties Cricket Association (ECCA) announced the schedule of this year’s Eastern Counties that will see champions Cleveland County begin their title defence against Bailey’s Bay.The date for the first round is scheduled for July 16 at Sea Breeze Oval, while the second and final round will be played on August 13 between Flatts Victoria and the winner of the first round.ECCA secretary Gregory Johnson also issued a statement on behalf of the ECCA as regards to the withdrawal of St. David’s in this year’s competition.“We have exhausted all avenues during the off season to bring some resolution to the differences between St. David’s County Cricket Club and Eastern County Cricket Association without success,” he said.“We would like to thank you in advance for your continued support, we will continue to work with St. David’s County Cricket Club to bring an end to our differences to rekindle the spirit and heritage of the Eastern County Cricket series for the future.”n The BCB have confirmed the results from the Disciplinary Committee hearings on Thursday, July 7.Ryan Belboda, of Southampton Rangers, was found guilty of a Level One Code of Conduct breach and issued an official reprimand.Dion Stovell, of the same team,l was found guilty of a Level One and Level Two Code of Conduct breach and was hit with a ban of two matches with immediate effect.
