Influential French coach linked with BFA
Top UEFA advisor Jacques Crevoisier, one of the main architects of France's 1998 World Cup and 2000 European Championship successes, is now being linked with a consultancy job at Bermuda Football Association (BFA).
It is understood BFA officials are keen on having an individual of Crevoisier's calibre play an influential role as a technical advisor in the renaissance of local football, beginning from the ground up with a development plan that mirrors those in regions where the game has thrived.
"Jacques has agreed to assist in any way that he can. But nothing even close to being formal has been arrived at," a BFA source told The Royal Gazette.
Regarded as one of Europe's most influential coaching figures, Crevoisier has overseen the development of many of France's top footballers such as Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira.
He has also coached the likes of England internationals Michael Owen and Steven Gerard during a stint at Liverpool and is technical director of French Division One side, Sochaux.
Crevoisier has also had an influence on local coaches such as Dandy Town technical director Scott Morton.
In 2006, Morton attended a coaching course at the French Football Federation's national training centre at Clairfontaine where he studied under the Frenchman.
"He has so much knowlege – and not just about coaching but also about the psychological part of the game and also from an organisational standpoint," said Morton.
"I was very impressed."
Former Manchester City striker, Shaun Goater, echoed Morton's sentiments.
"If he worked with Gerard Houllier, then I think his record speaks for itself," he said.
"I certainly support anything that is going to help move Bermuda football. And I think Richard Calderon (BFA president) and the current regime (BFA) will get it right and I wish them all the best."
During a brief visit here two years ago, Crevoisier held a two-day clinic at Devonshire Recreation Club that was attended by coaches and players from the Island's clubs.
"What I would like to do with Bermuda coaches is to explain what is currently done at the top level in the world," he said during that visit.
During a decade-long coaching career, Crevoisier, who has a PhD in psychology and is an officially recognised Physical Education teacher, has worked for UEFA's technical department as a senior manager and also as a high-ranking advisor to Europe's football governing body.
He has also earned a glowing reputation within the French Football Federation as a national coach who knows how to develop strong teams and understands the value of strong leadership.
