Experience is key for Netts, says White
Data Tech Netts player and assistant coach Tanika White attributes experience as the driving force behind her team’s inspiring win against defending Senior Winter Netball League champs Young Men’s Social Club Lady Bluebirds at the weekend.Data Tech triumphed 44-33 in a hard fought match to keep their unbeaten league record intact and enhance their chances of regaining the title from Lady Bluebirds who slumped to their first league defeat in more than a season.Data Tech currently trail unbeaten league leaders Warwick Panthers on goal difference after four rounds of matches.Reflecting upon her team’s win against Lady Bluebirds, White said: “Both teams played awesome. However I think Data Tech has more seasoned players and were able to put some of their experience into practice.“As a group we are quite older than the Bluebird team and most of the teams in the league. However, with both teams having several national squad members it came down to who made the least mistakes and on that night Data Tech Netts was that team.”The win was Data Tech’s second over Lady Bluebirds this season having beaten the latter in the season-opening Sylvia Easterly Tournament. Lady Bluebirds are currently third in the standings, three points adrift of Panthers and Data Tech.“Having a win over the league champions from last year has certainly allowed us to hope and will for the championship crown,” added White. “It was definitely a boost to our confidence as the victory was not a slim one, we won by ten points.”Making Data Tech’s victory all the sweeter was the fact they were forced to dig deep to come from behind before ultimately prevailing.“We were down in the first quarter and behind by the half,” White said. “The last two quarters we dominated and were able to keep our lead. It isn’t only hard to get a lead with such a good team but to maintain it.“Our team was very excited to win such an important game. However, we are very humbled as we go out there to do our best. We happened to be the better team that night.”
