AM Best puts Bermuda in the spotlight

In the spotlight: Premier Michael Dunkley speaks with AM BestTV's Meg Green

The ratings agency and publishing house, AM Best, provided additional coverage of Bermuda and the Bermuda Captive Conference this week with AM Best TV.

Best set up an exhibit booth — one of 49 at the Conference -and published information online about Bermuda and the BCC.

Best Group vice-president Lee McDonald said: “The objective was to promote AM Best’s presence in the captive and global insurance community. AM BestTV is a new initiative that we launched this year.

“We had a nice presence at RIMS in Denver and target markets in Baltimore. We’re refining our approach to covering events by focusing on the high profile persons who are key to these issues.

“The reaction has been good. We started seeing traffic (on the web site) pick up noticeably on Tuesday morning after we released an interview with (Premier) Michael Dunkley.

“There seems to be higher interest in Bermuda these days, given the recent political shifts.

“However, Bermuda is never out of the news, given coverage of globalisation, reinsurance and US legislation.”

AM Best Company senior associate editor Meg Green said: “We interviewed key industry leaders in Bermuda and put the video interviews on our website www.ambest.com/bermuda14.

“We rolled them out as stand-alone interviews, which site visitors can view in conjunction with our daily wrap-up of each day’s highlights from the Bermuda Captive Conference.

“We interviewed the new Premier (Michael Dunkley), the Minister for Economic Development (Grant Gibbons), Shelby Weldon (director, insurance, licensing and authorisation, Bermuda Monetary Authority) and industry leaders like Carolyn Snow from RIMS (Risk & Insurance Management Society, Inc), and Peter Mullen from Aon.”

Best has published an impressive 18 video interviews of Bermuda Captive Conference participants on the site.

Ms Greene said: “We were trying to get different perspectives on the industry in Bermuda and the big trends in the captive insurance industry.

“We are doing AM BestTV as feature programming three times a week, and it’s a more comprehensive look at the industry from multiple sources.”

The interviews were uploaded to AM Best’s Oldwick, New Jersey office, where they were edited for content and immediately posted on line.

AM Best media production specialist Kim Bjorheim added, “We were shooting video with two cameras and as soon as we taped the discussions, we were able to upload the content to New Jersey, where they completed whatever editing was required and put them on our website.”
