Man pleads not guilty to woman’s murder
A man charged with murdering a woman whose body was found in the sea has pleaded not guilty. David DeSilva, 46, is alleged to have killed Denise Evans-Wilkinson some time from April 26 onwards, when she was last seen.Her body was discovered in the water off the coast of Mill Point Road in Pembroke on April 29.Mr DeSilva of Tulo Lane, Pembroke, was remanded into custody until a further court hearing on January 3.Meanwhile, two American women have admitted plotting to import more than $400,000 of cannabis resin on a cruise ship.Alloah Releford, 23, from Temple, Georgia, and 27-year-old Latoya Powell, of Marietta, Georgia, brought in 2.7kg of the drug aboard the Carnival Fantasy on October 8.The value of the resin is said by prosecutors to be $406,550 on the streets of Bermuda. The women will be sentenced at a date to be fixed on January 3, and were remanded into custody until then.Both cases were dealt with during the monthly arraignment session at Supreme Court when a number of other sentencing and trial dates were also set.They included a sentencing hearing on December 15 for Sanchey Grant and Jahmel Blakeney. The pair was convicted of attempted murder on November 22 in respect of a shooting at Southside Cinema in November 2009.Footballer Shaki Minors and his pregnant girlfriend Renee Kuchler were left seriously injured in the attack.
