Alex Erskine has been elected to partnership at law firm Appleby Spurling Hunter.

Mr. Erskine has over 18 years legal experience, including private practice and working within financial institutions.

He is member of the firm's corporate and commercial practice where he serves as team leader of the funds and investment services and structured finance teams in Bermuda.

Mr. Erskine specialises in advising on structuring and operating investment vehicles including mutual funds, hedge funds, unit trusts, partnerships, and close ended funds.

He also advises on securities offerings, listings, investment banking, asset management issues, brokerage, custody and financial services generally.

Mr. Erskine has a particular expertise in providing advice on Bermuda's Investment Business Act which regulates the provision of Investment Services in and from Bermuda.

"He has demonstrated mastery of his areas of legal expertise, a keen commercial sense and exemplary leadership capabilities."

Prior to joining Appleby, Mr. Erskine was the Deputy Legal and Compliance Director of the asset management division of UBS AG.

Mr. Erskine was born in Accra, Ghana and speaks fluent Akan and was educated in Ghana and England.

He studied law at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth graduating in 1986 with an LL.B. Honours.
