Life insurance chiefs heading for conference

Wealth managers and life insurance executives from around the world will converge on the Fairmont Southampton tomorrow for the Global Life Insurance Forum.

The three day conference is part of the IBC International Trust, Estate & Wealth Management Series, and is the sixth annual conference on this topic in Bermuda.

Formerly the International Life and Annuities Forum, the conference is now considered the premier meeting place for international life insurance executives and the most comprehensive conference dedicated exclusively to the global insurance market, according to the organisers.

"We have some new and exciting changes this year," said conference organisers. "We believe the new name better illustrates the global focus of our programme, the inclusiveness of the world market and the international composition of our faculty."

The conference is aimed at anyone surrounding the HNWI/family who is responsible for liquidity funding and wealth accumulation, transfer and preservation, including: International life insurance executives.

The conference will also be of interest to tax attorneys, CPAs, insurance companies and distributors, private bankers, trust officers, family office members & executives, family foundations, insurance product designers and marketing executives and consultants.

This year's conference has the theme of safety and security - structural security, carrier security and underlying investment security.

"It is of great concern to your clients, for whom you continue to create wealth management strategies and search for wealth preservation solutions," said the organisers. "And our new format of general and breakout sessions presents you with a unique opportunity - to hear about the issues that are most important to you, and then explore them in greater depth through a hands-on exchange with the presenters and your colleagues."

The main topics this year will include "Policyholder Protection and Regulatory Issues in Europe", "Exploring the Development of the Life Insurance Market in the Middle and Far East", "Legal Issues and Regulatory Developments in Asia and the Americas", "Life Insurance in the Context of Private Banking", and "Focus on the Main International Centers of Life Insurance - Bermuda, Ireland, Isle of Man/UK, Luxembourg".

There will also be the second Annual Friedrich von Hayek Lecture and a talk on the regulation of corporate governance and the benefits and costs to investors presented by Christopher L. Culp, Adjunct Professor of Finance, University of Chicago and Resident Guest Professor of Risk Insurance, Universit?t Bern.

The Keynote Address will be an OECD update and will be presented by Richard Hay, Partner, Stikeman Elliott LLP.
