Dr Dottie praised by BPWC
By the time this piece is read, Dr Dorothy Matthews-Paynter and a group of her close relatives and friends may well be on the high seas cruising to Alaska as part of her continuing round of celerations of her 90th Berthday. In our June 30 Island Notebook, we described Dr Dorothy as the “Queen B” of this country's beauticians and doyenne of its hairdressers. She's a globetrotting grandmother, highpowered professional and active member of Vernon Temple Church and community. What we didn’t point out is that she was one of the founding members some 50 years ago of the Bermuda Business and Professional Women’s Club. The club, now headed as president by former Cabinet Minister Neletha Butterfield, went all out a week ago in a birthday salute to Dr Dorothy.More than 200 persons packed the Whitney Institute Assembly Hall for a luncheon jointly sponsored by the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs and the BPWC.The event was held on the day before the group left Bermuda for the Alaska cruise.
