Fourways worker stole $2,600 A former Fourways Inn doorman who stole $2,600 from his employers spent the cash on clothes and drugs.

Amos Smith, 20, of Ewing Street, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court yesterday to taking money from an office safe belonging to his Fourways Inn employers last June.

Prosecutor Sgt. Donald Grant said Smith, who worked at Fourways Gourmet Shop, delivered a bag containing cash and cheques to the main office on June 15.

Another employee placed the bag in a combination safe but the money was missing the next morning.

Smith later admitted to Police he took the money after noticing the door of the safe was ajar.

He threw away the cheques and spent the cash. None of the stolen money has been recovered.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis ordered a social inquiry report.

YOUTHS CHARGED WITH FIGHTING CTS Youths charged with fighting Police called for an early trial date for a man involved in a brawl, fearing the feud could escalate.

Prosecutor Sgt. Donald Grant said in Magistrates' Court yesterday that Police believed a punch-up allegedly between two men at the Hamilton bus terminal on Monday arose out of an incident in the East End.

The younger man, Ibe Todd, 17, of Mount Hill, Pembroke pleaded guilty with an explanation to taking part in the fight.

He claimed Coy Fox, 22, hit him first with a metal bike lock that split his head.

Fox, of Mullet Bay Road, St. George's yesterday denied taking part in the fight.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. William Francis ordered a social inquiry report for Todd and a July trial for Fox.

TUB OVERFLOWS FIR Tub overflows The Bermuda Fire Service was called in after a bathtub overflowed on Angle Street in Pembroke yesterday.

A tub overflowed in the bathroom and water spilled out into a hallway, a bedroom, and a kitchen, a spokesman said.

The resident called the fire department at about 10.30 a.m. after he heard a popping sound and feared an electrical fire.

Firefighters freed the blocked drain and shut off the power supply to the house, recommending that the resident call an electrician to have the wiring inspected.

SCHOOLS BURGLED CRM Schools burgled Two schools in Southampton were burgled over the weekend, Police reported yesterday.

Cash was removed from a Bermuda Institute classroom and cricket balls and stop watches were taken from Heron Bay School.

BAGS SNTACHED CRM Bags snatched Police were yesterday investigating two handbag snatchings which happened on Monday.

In one, a visiting couple was riding a livery cycle along Harbour Road in Paget at about 2.15 p.m. when another cycle approached and the passenger snatched a handbag from the rear basket, Police said.

In the other incident, a woman was sitting in Barr's Bay Park in Hamilton at about 4.20 p.m. when a boy dressed in a school uniform came up and snatched her bag.

The woman chased the boy along with other witnesses. He dropped the bag, but escaped.

BOBCAT OVERTURNS AC Bobcat overturns A construction worker went into shock on Monday when the Bobcat tractor he was operating overturned, Police said yesterday.

The incident happened at a construction site in Devonshire.

The 20-year-old man crawled out from under the tractor unscathed, but was treated for shock at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

GAS PRICES RISE EGY Gas prices rise The Finance Minister has announced local oil companies put up the cost of petroleum yesterday.

Gasoline costs 1.7 cents per litre more, diesel 0.6 cents and kerosene 0.4 cents.

The maximum retail prices for petroleum products are: gasoline 116.1 cents per litre, diesel 87.4 cents and kerosene 66.3 cents.
