Marsh & McLennan and CHIPS each recorded close fought victories over the weekend, as action in the Commercial Winter Softball league continued.

Marsh won a 12-11 nailbiter over B&S as Dave Balmuth and Steve Outerbridge both went three-for-four, including a home run each.

For B&S Andy Yonda similarly went three-for-four with a home run blast, while Trevor Brookes also got on base three times.

Nisala Weerasooriya was the winning pitcher, while Chris Dickson was saddled with the loss.

In game two CHIPS downed AIM 16-15 as Scott Suddary belted a pair of home runs in going three-for-four and was aided by Blaine Bernard's three hits as Joe Logan was the winning pitcher.

The night's final contest witnessed Skandia easily dispose of Arthur Anderson 9-2, as Steve Retter and Larry Turnball got two hits apiece. Rob Eastham was the winning pitcher.

Matches played on Saturday witnessed BF&M blast Team Fashions 25-10, Bobcats demolish Robin Hood 13-5 and Warwick defeat PTB 17-11.

CHESS CHS Teenagers Giovanni Vescovi of Brazil and Alexandre Lesiege of Canada hold the lead with two rounds remaining in the Mermaid Beach Club Grandmaster tournament.

In third spot is Victor Frias of the US and all three players have a chance of obtaining a Grandmaster norm if they can obtain one-and-a-half points from the last two rounds.

The final round takes place today from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. and then the Bermuda Open commences on Friday at 8 p.m. The Open concludes on Sunday.
