Mooring licences up for renewal

Boaters are being reminded that annual mooring licences expire at the end of this month — and need to be renewed to avoid late fees.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Transport said: “All current licences expire on May 31, 2014 and only boats that are out of the water are exempt from registration renewal. Under the law the registration of boats and moorings and placement of current decals on same is the responsibility of the owner.

“Moorings licences more than three months outstanding will be cancelled and the mooring will be removed. The reinstatement fee for a cancelled mooring starts at $325 per mooring.”

The spokesman added that the Department of Marine and Ports will not be posting renewal notices this year as a cost-saving measure. Furthermore, owners are now able to directly access their account information online.

Payments can now be made through the website www.marineandports.bm or by visiting the Department of Marine and Ports at East Broadway, 4 Crow Lane.

To see what is owed, members of the public can go onto the website and create a login using their Marine and Ports account number. This number can be found at the top left of their registration documents from the previous year. A list of fees is also available on the website without logging in.

All charter and rental boat licences expired at the end of April. Owners are asked to contact the Marine Services Officers in advance at Tel: 295-6575 to book an inspection.
