Social frustrate Cleveland
Five half centuries were scored at Sea Breeze Oval as these two teams settled for a draw after Social Club made a solid reply to Cleveland's total.
Cleveland's top three batsmen in their batting order all got amongst the runs with openers Grant Smith and Curtis Jackson scoring 68 and 62 respectively and number three bat Wayne Smith chipping in with 67 not out as Cleveland hammered their runs in just 47 overs before declaring. Smith and Jackson put on 125 for the first wicket though both were dropped early in their innings.
Cleveland's hopes of making short work of Social Club were thwarted by youngster Caldon Grimes and veteran Lee Raynor. Grimes (65) and Leonard Gilks (14) put on 59 for the first wicket. Raynor finished with 50 not out while Webster Mills scored 27.
St. David's 220 Police 156-7 Police had it all worked out -- win the toss, send St. David's in, knock them down cheaply and still have time to catch their Father's Day cruise at 8 p.m.
At 7.30 p.m., the match was finally ending after St. David's, upon being sent in, batted for five hours for their runs as Lionel Cann led the way with a two-hour, 57-minute knock of 113 that included seven sixes and 11 fours.
St. David's had lost Allen Richardson, Shea Pitcher and Eddie Lamb with just six runs on the board and struggled further at 36 for five before Cann and captain Ken Pitcher (28) added 88 for the sixth wicket. Cann and Herbie Bascome (26) put on a further 66 for the seventh wicket as St. David's batted past tea.
Police sent in Tyrone Smith as an opener in a bid to boost their scoring but Dale Fox, in his first match of the season, got him in his first over and they were soon settling for a draw.
The other opener, Dennis Archer, went soon after for six when the score was 14. Then, Blades led the way with 58 not out. Leverock scored 20 and Andre Hendrickson 19 as Cecil Pitcher was the pick of the St. David's bowlers with three for 33 from 10 overs. Fox took two for 41 from 10 overs.
Somerset Bridge 166 Southampton 167-9 Somerset Bridge remained competitive throughout at Southampton Oval before Rangers squeezed out a one-wicket win.
Robin Swan led the Bridge batting with 45 as he and Alfred Carter put on 73 for the first wicket. Captain David Jones hit 20 while Shawn Roberts hit a valuable 25 in the tail-end as Quinton Burch claimed four for 29 to lead the Rangers bowling.
Kwame Tucker, Keith Wainwright, Stevie Lightbourne and Janeiro Tucker all got in the 20s for Rangers.
MAKE-UP MATCH Hamilton Parish 139 Nationals 4-0 Rain spoiled Nationals' chances of moving into first place, if only for a day, when the players were ushered off the field at 3 p.m.
Nationals gained eight points for the draw, with maximum bowling and batting points, while Parish had four.
Spinner Bruce Perinchief was earlier the scourge of the Parish batsmen as he claimed five for 40 from 14.2 overs. Chris Wright took three for 32 and Wilfred Hudson two for 24.
Brian Morris made 41 and Dennis Trott made 30.
