Young Zebras pack a punch
Boulevard were competitive for the first 45 minutes, but after the interval there was nothing they could do to prevent PHC from demoralising them in this First Division clash at Lord's yesterday.
After Michael Trott gave them a 1-0 lead at the half, PHC added three in the second half through Otis Steede, substitute Kenny Mills and Sheridan (Baldy) Ming to hold onto their slim lead at the top of the table.
Boulevard were methodically thrown out of gear in the second half and allowed their opponents to dominate to the extent that PHC could have added a few additional goals with more experienced players up front.
But with their mediocre opponents unable to offer much of a challenge the occasion proved to be an ideal learning experience for their teenagers like Shawn Simons, Otis Steede and Raynel Lightbourne. Simons had enough chances to bury Boulevard for good.
While each member of this trio wasted scoring chances they did enough to make it clear that PHC's future does indeed look bright.
However, the future doesn't look so bright for Boulevard. They were struck a blow after just 10 minutes when left-winger Sinclair Boyles was taken to hospital by ambulance with a serious leg injury and the team simply faded completely in the second half.
PHC pinned down Boulevard early and it wasn't a surprise when Trott headed a Lightbourne corner after 16 minutes to give them a 1-0 lead.
Shawn Simons followed this up with two shots on goal, but the young striker placed both of them wide from 16 yards.
With Dwight Warren working tirelessly in midfield Boulevard came into the game with increasing momentum but his teammates up front were unable to deal intelligently with his accurate passes.
Boulevard finally got into the scoring mood after 31 minutes and it took a brilliant save from Ty Williams in the PHC goal to deny a 16-yard rocket from Vernon Eve. The rebound fell to substitute Norrell Hunt but the young striker wasted the chance when he headed the ball over from just 11 yards.
Simons put another shot wide for PHC after 36 minutes after getting a good cross from Trott, but Boulevard came back five minutes later with Williams saving a blast from Amon Brown from a deep angle on the right.
It was sad to see Boulevard fade so quickly when play restarted as they did little to prevent their opponents from taking the early initiative.
After 50 minutes Steede placed a ball just over from 17 yards. Goalkeeper Ed Oliver was sharp enough to block a hard drive from Sheridan Ming two minutes later and Mills was frustrated after completely miskicking the rebound from just 11 yards.
PHC took a deserved 2-0 lead after 63 minutes when Shawn Smith created the spadework that enabled Steede to score from close in.
With PHC now in full flow more goals always seemed inevitable and the third came after 75 minutes when substitute Casey Burgess put Mills through the middle to score on a breakaway.
Then skipper Mike Dill came into the picture when he raced down the right side and provided Sheridan Ming with the cross to score the fourth from close range.
