Just-married Bermudian loses cancer battle in UK
A Bermudian has lost his fight against cancer just a week after he married in Britain.
Sherwin Hall, 28, died in Leeds, West Yorkshire, on Thursday, surrounded by family and friends.
Mr Hall, the father of two young sons, had a rare and aggressive cancer that attacks soft tissue diagnosed in June.
He underwent several courses of chemotherapy in Britain and some immunotherapy in Tijuana, Mexico, but the treatment of the disease, already at stage four, was ineffective.
Mr Hall and Bermudian La’Troya Caines-Wilkinson planned to marry in December, but brought the wedding forward to November 26 after doctors in Leeds said there was nothing more they could do for him.
Mrs Hall posted a YouTube video, which gave an update on his condition.
She said: "His new prognosis is pretty bleak.“
Mrs Hall added a tumour in her husband’s pelvis had grown to 18 centimetres, had spread to other organs, and that he was on oxygen.
She added Mr Hall had never given up the fight against the disease and was making plans to seek alternative cancer treatments in Turkey.
Mr Hall moved to England six years ago seeking a better life.
He was working as a dog breeder when he started to suffer pelvic pain in September 2019 and later developed a lump near his rectum.
He sought medical help when the pain worsened in March this year, but an accurate diagnosis was delayed because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The couple raised £55,088 (about $74,000) through a crowdfunding website.
The money was at first earmarked for alternative treatment.
But last week, as Mr Hall’s condition worsened, Mrs Hall said some of the money would go towards funeral expenses.
She said she believed that if her husband’s cancer had been found when he first saw doctors in March, his prognosis might have been better.
She said on her crowdfunding page that she was seeking legal advice.
