Thorough preparations for Under-19s

BBA Under-19 head coach Tim Trott

Bermuda Basketball Association's (BBA) Under-19 team will look to improve upon their previous 1-2 record at the Georgetown District High School Tournament in Ontario, Canada when they compete in this year’s event later this month. And to help achieve their objective team members have been put through a rigorous training regime and thrown in the deep end of the pool competing against senior players in the domestic leagues in the lead up to the Georgetown District High School Tournament to be held November 30 to December 1.“The team has practiced 3-4 days a week and also participates in the BBA's Premier Basketball League as the Paget BearCats and more recently the Sandys 360 Basketball League as the ThunderCats,” said team head coach Tim Trott. The BBA Under-19s are due to depart for Ontario November 29 and return December 3.The local team currently boast a 1-2 record in the Premier League and are 0-1 in the Sandys 360 League. And even though BBA Under-19s have only one win under their belt in league play so far this season coach Trott is encouraged by the way his team has gelled as a unit on the court.“As a coach I am more concerned with how we are playing as a team,” he said. “A win is always good but it’s not how you start the race but how you finish that is most important.“I have seen progress from day one in both individual and team play and I am confident that the team will do well in the tournament. This is the 3rd invite from Georgetown High School. Two years ago they didn't win any games, last year they were 1-2 so the goal this year is 2-1 or better.”Last week saw the BBA Under-19s compete in a mini-tournament also involving a Bermuda National Select, Bermuda College Select and Stanstead College from Quebec City, Canada. The BBA Under-19s finished with an impressive 2-1 record.Following their tour of Ontario at the end of the month the local team will return home to prepare for another tour of Las Vegas where they will compete in the Las Vegas High School Christmas Classic to be held December 26-29.The BBA Under-19s depart for Las Vegas on Christmas Day and return just in time for New Year’s Eve celebrations on December 31.To help offset costs for the upcoming tours team members have staged various fundraisers such as bake sales and a trash-a-thon.Accompanying the local team to Ontario and Las Vegas are head coach Trott, assistant coach Kent Tacklyn and BBA Youth Director Chris Crumper.Kieron Dill and Joshua Liyanage will share the captaincy of the BBA Under-19s during the upcoming tours.BBA Under-19s: Caleb Ball, Salih Burns, Kieron Dill (co captain), Dion Easton, Donavan Livingston, Joshua Liyanage (co captain), Kariim O'Connor, Aaron Perinchief, Jah-Nhai Perinchief, Steven Rance, Quinn Simmons and Tristan White.
