Constituency #9 - Smith's West - Larry Mussenden

Larry Mussenden

As a former Cabinet member and Senator, Larry Mussenden is well suited to add valuable input in future PLP Governments. Appointed to the Senate in October 2003, Mr. Mussenden was then appointed as Attorney-General, Minister of Justice and Government Senate Leader in January 2004. He served in this capacity until October 2006.

Upon leaving Cabinet Larry has been employed in the private sector as a commercial and reinsurance litigation lawyer.

Educated at Prospect Primary School and Warwick Academy, Larry attended the Bermuda College where he obtained his diploma in data processing, before continuing on to obtain a bachelor's degree in computer science from Acadia University in Nova Scotia, Canada. He has also obtained a master's degree in management studies and human resources and a law degree from Kent University in 1994. He was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 1995 and was called to the Bermuda Bar beginning in 1996.

Larry Mussenden's career in public service started before his entrance in the political arena. A former police constable and a career in the Bermuda Regiment which lead him to the position of Second-in-Command and ADC to the Governor, are only some examples of his commitment. Larry also served as a Crown Counsel in the Attorney-General's Chambers in 1996 and then as a prosecutor in the Office of the Department of Public Prosecutions.

Larry currently serves as the President of the Bermuda Football Association, Chairman of the FIFA World Appeals Committee and Chairman of the Bermuda College.

As the candidate for Smith's West, Larry strives to tackle a number of local constituency issues. He notes there are a number of traffic and safety related issues in the community; from the need for traffic signs and speedbumps due to the increased traffic and more neighborhood watch schemes to prevent criminal activity in the community.

He also commits to working with the community and the Bermuda Police Service to address the scourge of drug dealing and other anti-social activities in the community

Nationally, Larry Mussenden strives to address issues of crime, housing, senior care and education to continue the improvements made by the current PLP Government in the hopes of continuing to Move Bermuda Forward Together.
