Show love for your neighbour at the Rec

'Love Thy Neighbour' that's the theme of a fund-raising party being held at Devonshire Recreational Club tonight to promote the fight against street violence.

Organisers plan to use the cash to bring Bermudian motivational speaker Dennis Rahiim Watson back to the Island to spread the message.

Mr. Watson is currently living in Harlem, New York. He's been conducting workshops in prisons there since 1983 and is CEO of the Center for Black Student Achievement and chairman of the National Youth and Gang Violence Taskforce.

Recently he was named as one of the top 50 best black speakers in America and singled out for praise by US President Barack Obama.

"I believe we have to be proactive," said event organiser Craig Clarke, president of Devonshire Rec.

"Mr. Watson does United States gang intervention and contacted me. I told him I would do something to raise money for a good cause."

The party will feature R&B music on one level of the club and reggae on the other. Hors d'oeuvres will also be served.

Tickets are $40 at the door or $30 in advance from Mr. Clarke who can be reached on 337-3138
