A pet dog suffered horrendous pain and nearly died after eating a Portuguese Man-of-War at Admiralty House Park beach.Diamond, a two-and-a-half-year-old female pit bull, was saved by vets at Endsmeet Animal Hospital after biting into the poisonous creature while swimming on Thursday morning.Elrico Cann, 22, who was looking after the dog for his girlfriend Tiffany Johnson, urged fellow pet owners to watch out for the deadly Man-of-Wars which wash up on many of Bermuda’s beaches.“I was just talking to one of my friends and she must have bit it,” Mr Cann told The Royal Gazette.“I looked up and all the chemicals were in her mouth. She was breathing very heavy and slow, so I was worried for her.“I ran to the beach and she came to meet me and I could see all these white gooey tentacles all around her mouth. Her mouth was blue.”Diamond’s tongue was paralysed, but Mr Cann praised the efforts of Endsmeet who aided her recovery, meaning by yesterday she was able to eat.He added: “People need to remember you just have to pay attention to what’s in the water. Look before you go in or let your dogs go in.”
