RBR, Legion and Lindo’s pack presents for vets and widows

Christmas gifts to veterans were dispatched to war veterans and their widows at the weekend.

The delivery was a team effort by the Royal Bermuda Regiment, the Bermuda Legion and the Lindo’s supermarket group.

The Regiment brought out volunteers, the Legion supplied funds from its annual Poppy Appeal, and Giorgio Zanol, president of the Lindo’s Group of Companies, helped put together the gifts – and gave the Legion a discount.

Lieutenant Chris Matvey of the Royal Bermuda Regiment helped load up the deliveries from Lindo’s in Devonshire last Friday, which went to almost 100 people island-wide, including people in nursing homes.

He said: “This is our second year doing this – we have 14 folks doing deliveries.

“It spreads some Christmas cheer, especially for this year when we could not run any of the events we normally do, such as the lunch on Remembrance Day.

“People have been stuck in their houses all this year, so we’re happy to bring a bit of joy.”
